What Is the Best Charity of All?

Charity has been with us throughout all of human history.

We know in our heart of hearts that the best charity of all is the gift of our selves. When you give of your own time to help another, you are giving a part of your very life that is irreplaceable.

That is why the example of Mother Theresa resonates with everyone who knows her story.

Of course, our personal time is limited. There are only so many hours available that we can use to assist others.

For those of us who have accumulated goods and material wealth we want to be able to add or substitute gifts such as food, shelter and money to help others. On occasion we also want to be able to direct who receives our gifts.

We now need to find others who will distribute our giving on our behalf.

It is wise to give where one’s spirit has been fed. Thus the priests, ministers, rabbis and teachers who feed us spiritually have a natural position on a list of recipients for our gift of money.

That way, these leaders and teachers will have the resources to feed and teach others.

Likewise, it is sensible to give to feed others (i.e., the hungry and needy). One does well to give a portion of one’s tithe or gift to those who feed the hungry, clothe the naked, etc….

When we give we want the our gift to be something true. We want our gifts and charity to be of real use to those who receive. It is at this point that true stewardship becomes a critical consideration.

When giving becomes organized the question of who benefits is very important.

Stewardship Financial Services is committed to work on standards of giving that honor the core of human compassion. We are committed to help establish and maintain the true principles of stewardship that we all want when we give to others.

We welcome your questions and suggestions. If we can help, or if you would like to work with us,

Giving - being of value to another person, a community or society, without expectation of return.

Charity - loving kindness towards others, or generosity in giving to the needy.

Tithing - the act of giving one tenth of the annual produce from agriculture etc. This used to be paid in the form of a tax to support the Church.
